Fourteen year old F. E. Nicholson was killed during a deadly game of tag aboard speeding electric mine trams in a Tuscaloosa coal mine. Rance and Stancel Ray, aged 19 and 18, were jailed on murder charges as witnesses reported the chase through narrow track and tunnel shadows.
Joseph Gonzalaes, distraught over love, told a New Orleans patrolman he had taken poison. The officer persuaded him to seek help and a hospital. Gonzalaes decided to live and look for a partner, with nurses predicting release the next day.

In Pomona California on February 3 five youths died and a sixth sustained probable fatal injuries after fleeing motorcycle officers. A small car carrying six youths ran off a 50 foot embankment on a winding road near a canyon. Police believe excess weight on running boards caused the vehicle to overturn after officers pursued it to warn of dangerous curves. The dead are Melvin Letter. William Brown. Arthur Hubbard. James Hubbard. Howard White. Charles Caldwell is near death.
Major O W Campbell longtime secretary of the Fifth Louisiana Levee district died suddenly at 1 a m from a brain hemorrhage. Funeral services were held at Vidalia with interment in Vidalia cemetery. He is survived by his wife and brother Sheriff G P Campbell of Concordia parish. He served as secretary for sixteen years in Tallulah.
The Louisiana Supreme Court amended an injunction banning Senator William C. Boone John B. Pornet and Representative Edward D. Gianelloni from drawing salaries as highway counsel while they remain legislators. The ruling remands the case for further action and strengthens Judge Jones’s injunction.

The automotive license bureau on Walnut Street reported heavy demand as the pre-penalty period ends tomorrow. Manager M Doughty expected total plates issued to exceed 18 000, up from 16 000 to 17 000 the previous year, with 12 000 already issued and 2 000 mailed orders pending.
The Alabama state banking department reported the suspension of two southeast banks. Clio Banking Company of Clio with 50 000 capital and 15 000 surplus. People's Bank of Pinchard with 40 000 capital and 4 000 surplus. People's Bank cleared through Dothan National Bank which failed last week.
Oscar E. Chauvin killed his wife as she returned from New Orleans and then shot himself. He died in a Thibodaux hospital. Friends blame domestic difficulties for the tragedy. The couple, Louisiana natives, had lived in New Jersey and Louisiana, with a son ages four.
