The strike nears its final stage with applications and relief disputes continuing.
Calumet Michigan December 31 chief counsel O N Hilton of the Western Federation of Miners asked to adjourn the coroner inquest into the Christmas Eve disaster that killed seventy two. He said witnesses who claim to identify the man would be presented only after verification to avoid wrong accusations.

Deputy Sheriff Arthur Grant arrested G. Dolley from Binghampton England after a forged paper using Joe Mise’s name. Dolley claimed work for Mise and $20 monthly with board. He allegedly forged Mise’s signature for 15.75 dollars en route to Monroe where Grant detained him.
J F and J G Osborne from Union parish staged a house invasion at Susie Levette’s East End home. J F carried a pistol and brass knuckles with fifty extra cartridges. J G borrowed knuckles and struck a man, knocking out several teeth. J F fined 207.50 for concealed weapons. J G fined 27.50 for fighting. The story ends with advance agent W S Cassidy planning the Girl of My Dreams tour to Monroe.

The board reviewed pardon applications including Will Miller but saw no intrinsic merit to alter the jury verdict or court sentence. It noted Miller has respected female relatives yet found no reason to change the outcome. Two applications were postponed due to time limits after the recent meeting.
In Texarkana two young siblings, a 10 year old boy and his 5 year old sister, were involved in a fatal shooting with a .22 caliber rifle given as a Christmas gift. The sister died at the family home on Mieth and Wood streets, her body to be shipped to Big Sandy Texas. In Shreveport a separate incident reports a one year old loading a .22 pistol and a 12 year old sister shot in the jaw while the child ate dinner.
Port Arthur Texas December 31 G A Hall died after being suffocated in a fire that caused sixty thousand dollars damage in the business district.
Smith Arkansas. Under the new liquor law effective at midnight saloons must close while courts review petitions for liquor licenses. Many saloons held bargain sales before the ruling.
In Pineville Kentucky on December 3 state guardsmen move to seize Kendrickson clan members who fled to an abandoned mine. Twenty search heights will be used and officials warn a shooting may occur if they remain inside.
The Grand Opera House presented Officer 666 last night to strong praise for its wholesome humor and lack of suggestiveness. Cast includes Sadie Pipes Lizzie Mott and Eugene Barham of Oak Ridge, with the play lauded by Shreveport Times. The City and Parish high schools reopen Monday after holiday closure. J F Turner of Columbia visited Monroe last night.
A state senator reports Hobbs was found not guilty today after a jury trial in the Espie case. The decision ends the pursuit of charges against Hobbs and triggers no immediate further actions.
In Vicksburg on December 31, State Senator Hobbs was found not guilty on charges of receiving and soliciting a bribe from Stephen Castleman. The trial involved co-defendants Friends of Hobbs and Lieutenant Governor Hilbo, who demonstrated outside until Judge Mounger halted the scene. Hobbs admitted negotiating for a bribe solely to expose Castleman.
State Senator Hobbs faces a jury as the bribery trial resumes after Tuesday’s closing arguments. The defense accuses prosecutors of politics and questions the accuser Miss Mattie Plunkett while both sides stress evidence and intent beyond a reasonable doubt.
