A Christmas Day tally shows at least 163 deaths across North America from train crashes, fires, drownings, and self inflicted harm. Motor vehicle crashes caused most fatalities with state tallies from Indiana to California, and multiple deadly fires and gun-related incidents also reported.

Four highwaymen robbed three guards of an eighteen thousand dollar payroll four miles from Lancaster South Carolina as they drove from Lancaster to Chester. The robbers shot the tires of the guards car and fled in a Pontiac sedan. Police and guards remained at the scene with limited details available.

A fogbound drive on the Baton Rouge Airline highway caused a truck carrying 15 passengers to plunge down a 12 foot embankment and overturn in a ditch. Seven passengers were injured and treated at Charity hospital before being discharged. The party was en route from Echo to New Orleans.
The Christmas night crash near Hamilton Ontario killed at least 16 and injured many more as a Canadian National line collided with a stationary special. Officials say an open switch caused the wreck and investigation began. Engineer B Burrell and Toronto's W C Rice were lauded for their actions.
