Mrs. Blackburn Dies After Operation at St Francis Sanitarium

Mrs. Blackburn widow of unknown, who underwent a serious operation at St Francis Sanitarium Sunday, died today at about 1 pm. A Monroe resident for several years she served two years as Assistant Secretary in the city secretary and treasurer's office. She leaves two daughters. Her father and sister were with her since Sunday. funeral plans were not announced.

Miss Mary Boyd a Chicago policewoman pulled a resisting man from a street car backed him against a post and held him until a patrol wagon arrived after he fought with the conductor in an incident dated December 26 in Chicago.

Grudge Blamed For Near Tragedy In Many Shootout

Deputy sheriff R A Forse was wounded in the leg after a street duel with Dr P D Harvey Dillon former president of the Louisiana State Board of Health in Many. The clash followed prior disagreements between the former state official and the deputy and occurred on the towns main street near a drug store with several eyewitnesses.

At a public reception in Tokio the Mexican envoy to De la Barra thanked Japan for participation in the Mexican centennial. A resolution was adopted criticizing the United States for alleged discrimination against Japanese and expressing disapproval at Japan's participation in the Panama Exposition. A fire trapped many on upper floors as Mrs A Niemela died suffocated. Fireman John Burrill saved a six month old infant, Leonard Wilmin rescued a six year old, while a seven year old later aided another child. Chief Trudell caught a child hurled to safety. John Saari sacrificed his five year old son and perished. Spectators aided others by moving between balconies during the blaze.

Police Officer Shoots Man During Commons Disturbance

Ed Head, a negro, was shot and seriously wounded by Police Officer Klackie Lewis after head fired several times during a disturbance near the city cemetery. Three accomplices were arrested.
