Buying Power Of Year Held In AFL Report

The American Federation of Labor estimated over 1,000,000 jobs lost since September while wage gains kept buying power steady. Leon Henderson of the WPA had placed losses near 2,000,000. The AFL noted manufacturing hit hardest though November employment rose year over year. The index cited an average October earning of 65 3/4 cents an hour.

Legless man passes Oklahoma drivers test with 92 score

William Jennings Watson, disabled since infantile paralysis, scored 92 of 100 on a state drivers test in Guthrie Oklahoma. Examiner Charles C. Rice praised him as among the best drivers tested. Watson is transported to and from his car and uses hand extensions on the foot controls to drive.

Ford to appeal board ruling over union activity

Ford Motor company prepared to appeal the National Labor Relations Board finding that labeled Ford a Wagner Act violator. The board ordered reinstatement of 29 employees, cessation of discouraging union membership, and bans on dummy groups and intimidation.
