In two separate shootings across Ohio jealousy sparked gun violence. In Petersburg a divorced husband Wilbur Rauch 41 shot through a window killing George Shandor 41 and wounding Alice Rauch 35. In Columbus area Dan Myrick 24 wounded Marie McElroy 27 and two others. Myrick was taken into custody. Doris Bateman 33 and Lonnie Bateman 33 were also wounded.

Lu cille May Grace of Baton Rouge died after a long illness. Born October 3, 1900, she was the eldest of four and the first woman elected to a Louisiana statewide post as Register of the State Land Office. She served 21 years before a gubernatorial bid, then returned to win back her post. Burial was in Plaquemine.
In Oakland two gunmen abducted Blaine R. Groo and his wife Esther from their home and forced Groo to open two safes at a grocery store, extracting nearly $15,000 in cash and checks. The couple were held seven hours in a refrigerated room while the attackers threatened to pour sulfuric acid on the wife.
A 19 year old ex convict J B Aaron escaped West Carroll Parish jail at daybreak using a crudely fashioned key. He had been awaiting transfer to Angola for three years on forgery charges. Two other prisoners stayed put during the breakout. The escape prompted sheriff J R Butler to investigate the unlocked cell and suspect Aaron’s route to funds at his aunt’s home before contact with officials.
Firefighters from Monroe and West Monroe battled a 5:45 p.m. blaze at Dean Chapel Church of God on Old Arkansas Road causing about 1000 dollars in damage just before 6:15 p.m. Services were to begin. Investigators called the fire suspicious with Rev. A R Alexander noting a youth first spotted the flames.
Detroit police traced a suspicious car to a waitress after a holdup victim gave a license number. Detective William Matson said she lent the car to Thullen, who returned twenty minutes later and was arrested in connection with a $300 gasoline station robbery.
