Washington December 23 The plan for revising federal labor laws would suspend the 40 hour week and shift authority to a new War Labor Board created by Congress but limited by law. A member of the group described the proposals, outlining suspension of premium pay and other labor management changes.
Brazil and Chile move to back a 1943 rubber delivery deal with the United States as part of a broader strategy. Lieutenant Robert S. Dorsey of Pittsburgh Kansas flew into a frontline base with 16 turkeys for a Christmas dinner. Major Joseph Cunningham of Clarksburg West Virginia organized the delivery and warned of dire results if any feather was harmed. The turkeys arrived intact.

Mary Drury nine year old from East Orange was struck by a train at a crossing while returning home with ice cream for her birthday. She suffered leg injuries above the knees and remained in Orange Memorial hospital amid Christmas preparations and gifts from nurses and family.
Allied air and naval operations damaged and blocked railroads in northern France and the Low Countries while Malta received large reinforcements and war materials with limited enemy interference. One U-boat was destroyed and several Axis ships were sunk or damaged along Mediterranean supply routes to North Africa.
The famed Army halfback Christian Keener Cagle died in a Queens hospital at 12 40 a m after suffering a skull fracture and pneumonia. The 37 year old, once a consensus All American in 1928 and 1929, was found semi conscious in a Queens apartment lobby with his wife. Police are investigating whether the injury resulted from assault as they determine how he sustained the head wound. Cagle also played pro football and was a part owner of the Brooklyn Dodgers.
