Mrs. Lee Bradley aged 65, a widow, pleaded guilty to murdering her daughter Dolly Tate, 40, in Currytuck Oct. 6. Bradley waited in Gibson county jail to be sent to state prison in Nashville to begin a life sentence after the surprise trial admission. Police said Tate was shot then placed on a bed set afire while alive.

The body of Mrs Anne Towles Gunby 52 wife of Colonel Thomas S Gunby who died in an auto crash in Frederick Maryland will arrive in Monroe on Friday morning. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 10 o clock at the Gunby Home 501 Jackson Street with Rev A M Serex officiating. Interment will follow in the old City Cemetery. Surviving are her husband a daughter four sisters a brother and three nieces.
J H Drake district maintenance engineer was authorized to surface a half mile on state route 1297 in Ouachita parish. The $9,060.25 project will be done by state maintenance forces and surfaced with bituminous adjacent to the Thermatomic Carbon Company plant.
Floyd Peters and Brian Sedberry, both 31 and 22 respectively, Monroe duck hunters and Missouri Pacific railroad firemen, were reported lost in a Lafourche swamp. Spotted by a plane, they left the swamp and returned home after daylight. An American Legion crew later reached their camp.
In Thousand Oaks California an 18-year-old boy Michael Kovar will take over his mother May Kovar Schafer’s animal act after she was fatally attacked by a lion named Sultan. The tragedy occurred as May trained the beast with assistance from an elephant trainer and husband Fred Schafer. Funeral plans were announced for Oxnard. The mother, born in Liverpool as Mme. Kovar, had performed in circuses in the United States and Australia.
President Truman still seeks repeal of the Taft Hartley Act, but Democratic leaders expect the law to remain in place through 1950. Advisers tell him it may be futile to press repeal or major revision in the new Congress starting January 3. Repeal hopes hinge on gains in 1951. Southern Democrats and Republicans oppose, while Taft argues many workers prefer keeping the law.
Firefighters faced heavy smoke and fumes while tackling a compartmented experimental building at the Frankford arsenal. Federal agents restricted access, with at least 50 firemen affected. four hours after midnight authorities said the blaze was extinguished and fumes cleared.

Two people died and a third was critically injured in Franklin and Richland parishes as two separate crashes occurred early this morning and last night near Mangham and Baskin. San Antonio couple Rex and Mrs James were injured in a second crash when a Mangham driver pulled into their path. The victims named were James B. Allen 27 of Winnsboro and John Raymond Fitzgerald 18 of Rayville. Randel Rice 24 of Baskin remains in critical condition. Police reported no arrests yet.

John Nisbet 93 native of Scotland and plantation owner near Tallulah died yesterday in Monroe. Funeral set for 10:30 am Friday at Tallulah Presbyterian Church with Rev. Wiggins Kilpatrick Briggs officiating. burial in Silver Cross Cemetery directed by Young's Funeral Home. Survived by wife Elizabeth a daughter Mrs Peart Bryant and granddaughter Mrs James W Crosby Jr.
