Goodfellows drive seeks aid as 1971 appeal surpasses goal

The Goodfellows Christmas fund has raised 9575 64 toward a 9000 goal with donations still needed amid sharp demand. Campaign coordinator Jackie Neal says more money is required due to rising costs and record requests. Christmas donations total at nine thousand five hundred seventy five

Monroe council hears warning on gas bonds delay

William Beck, bond attorney from New Orleans, told Monroe officials that court delays could raise gas utility bond costs by about one million dollars over 20 years. Mayor Howard urged no meddling as voters had approved a $5.34 million revenue bond issue for the Monroe gas system.

Two Men Die In Attempted Hijacking At Sea

Fatal Explosion Destroys Paris Suburb Apartment

A gas explosion tore through a northwest Paris suburb apartment building in Argenteuil killing 10 and injuring 106. Witnesses say the blast flattened interior walls of the round tower as firefighters responded to a basement gas leak and evacuated a nearby school.
