Markham Elected Today President of Thnais Central Railroad
Chicago December 21 Charles H B Markham president of Gulf Refining Company and Gulf Pine Line Company elected president of Thnais Central Railroad to succeed J T Harahan who retires next month. Markham began railway work in 1881 as a section laborer on the Santa Fe later serving as station agent for Southern Pacific at Deming New York. He rose to district freight and passenger agent at Fresno and then general freight agent for Oregon lines of the Southern Pacific. In 1904 he became vice president of the Houston and Texas Central and was later general manager and vice president of the Southern Pacific before resigning about eight years ago to enter the oil business.

Four dry kilns and about twenty thousand feet of lumber belonging to Riverside Lumber Company near West Monroe were destroyed by a morning fire at about 11 o clock. Loss estimated at $1500 with no insurance. Fire started in a kiln using fire for heating. Only two kilns were full and some lumber on the ways was ready for shipment.
