Eugene P Day, 63 year old Spanish American War veteran formerly of Cleveland Ohio, died in Charity Hospital New Orleans from a fractured skull found in a stupor Thursday night in the French Quarter. A night watchman found him and abrasions looked old when admitted. Day had lived in a rooming house 14 years and received a government pension for his service.
General John J. Pershing halted in Jackson Tennessee overnight with sister Miss May Pershing and chauffeur Sergeant W C Shaeffer before continuing to Tucson Arizona for the winter. He visited the birthplace of his mother in Blount county near Maryville yesterday.

Arnold said Mike stepped in front of the car after starting on a green light and was sideswiped. Mike was taken to Riverside Sanitarium for treatment. no charges were filed.
Hamptonville North Carolina December 20 A general hospital sits on a farm serving a rural clientele nine miles from town. Dr William A Trivette operates the 24 room brick building with two stories and a basement and full medical and surgical equipment. A wind mill tower provides water and the facility is electrically lighted. Dr Trivette employees three doctors and four nurses an up to date nurses home adjoins the hospital.
The 1934 buying survey shows an 8 to 16 percent increase over last year with wholesalers of toys leading reorders. Mechanical and vehicular items are stressed while advance commitments for staples rise as prices hold. A Soviet balloon reached 183 miles with an automatic recorder, a new Russian record.

Loss estimated at 3500 dollars to Illinois Central railroad after seven box cars were totally destroyed and two more damaged at a Crinkle siding six miles west of here. Firemen from Monroe battled the blaze quickly, aided by nearby water, preventing spread to 25 empty box cars.
