Miss Lillian Collins Ouachita parish registrar of voters announces that registration for the January 20 primary closes Saturday December 20 at 6 pm in accordance with state law requiring registration be complete 30 days before an election. Since October 9 parish total was 22 055 with about 2 000 more registered since then.
Rome December 19. Premier Alcide de Gasperi expected to seek another confidence vote as Italy endures a second nationwide strike in a month involving 300 000 food handlers. Violence erupts in Palermo during a general strike and in the Senate as tensions with the Communist opposition spill into blows and a 30 minute recess.

Oliver Cooper a retired Brooklyn clothier died in Manchester Vermont at 77. Probate valued his estate under $10,000 but appraisers found bank books stocks bonds and mortgages totaling about $1.7 million. He left two heirs, niece Isabel C Malcolm and grand-niece Lorraine C King.
Ten Arabs including five children were fatally hurt and five more wounded when Jewish forces attacked Khisas in upper Galilee. Two cars entered the village at night, threw devices and opened fire. two houses were destroyed. Police found seven bodies in one ruin and three in another amid reports of Syrians and Lebanese among the victims. Arab sources tie the violence to opposing blocs and a broader Palestine conflict context.
The Monroe post office will keep windows open on Saturday afternoon until 6 p.m. to help with Christmas mail. Police reported the Georgia Tucker Grammar School at 405 Stubbs Avenue was entered Tuesday night through a smashed north side window. A large amount of food was stolen from the cafeteria, with the window used for both entry and exit.
