Danville California December report states Claire Kinsey Vance fifth ranking U S airmail pilot died in a fiery crash near Rocky Ridge four miles west of Danville. The 35 year old World War II veteran departed Oakland at 1145 PM on a transcontinental run and did not report by radio again. The wreck was found by foot after air search. Observers believe fog and reliance on the instrument panel contributed to the accident. Vance had worked on the Flying Wing, a new aircraft he hoped to popularize.
