A North Louisiana organized for Fight on Catt’e Tick met to map a drive at a meeting. Officers were chosen and a special legislative session was to be sought.
A Ruston mass meeting backed a statewide push to eradicate cattle ticks and urged Gov Huey P Long to convene a special 1929 session. The North Louisiana Tick Eradication Association formed with A H Henderson as president and H L McKnight as secretary, vowing broad backing from farmers bankers police jurors and university staff to pressure legislation.
Special to The News-Star Ruston La Dec 19 Professor P D Neilson of Tech faculty escaped serious injury when his car drifted onto a crossing at Trenton street and was struck by a freight train. The light coupe was lifted onto the cow catcher and dragged 150 feet before stopping. the professor was not hurt though the car was badly damaged.
Under resolutions at the North Louisiana Tick Association meeting in Ruston on Tuesday Governor Long is urged to call a special session. The move reflects regional concerns and calls for swift legislative action.
Huey P. Long said he would not call a special legislative session in 1929 to pass cattle tick eradication laws. North Louisiana parishes urged a session to authorize statewide measures funded by state and federal dollars to remove ticks and boost livestock and dairy industries.

In Marye street Alexandria Dee 19 Robert Lee Dunnan 21 perished today while entering a burning home to search for his sister Mildred believed still inside. Firefighters saved other family members on the second floor after a short circuit and possible gas leak started the blaze. Loss estimated at 15000 pounds.
Berwick, Pa. December 19 The eighteenth child of Mr. and Mrs. Calvin Titel, of this city, a son, was born today in the local hospital.
Asuncion Paraguay December 19 enrollment of troops continued as both Paraguay and Bolivia accepted Pan American conference settlement terms. President Guggiari chaired discussions with bankers and business leaders on economic defense. A national supply council led by ex Foreign Minister Bordenave formed. Five thousand volunteers enlisted at Conception and a student battalion organized in Asuncion. Four thousand Paraguayans in Argentina volunteered for military service.

The body of Fred Derouen of New Iberia Louisiana was brought to Bunkie after his death by his own hand in St Landry parish. He reportedly shot himself in the neck using his toe to pull the trigger. No reason was given for the act. The body was shipped back to New Iberia for burial.
