Monroe officials and the Federal Power Commission tentatively agreed to a four billion cubic feet gas payback by forfeiting current allocation and using the city’s small allotment for the power plant starting in April. If confirmed, the plan delays full repayment and avoids forfeiting the entire United Gas Pipe Line supply, reducing future costs.
The Monroe Goodfellows drive invites donations today with a goal of eighteen thousand five hundred dollars. Requests from local families include a disabled husband with no income and a mother supporting four children. Donations may be sent to the Monroe News-Star World Enmtioning Company at 411 North Fourth Street in Monroe before December twenty fourth.

Three armed robbery suspects were arrested about 10 a.m. after the Thomastown store owner was beaten and robbed of about 650 dollars. Freddie L. Jones 25 of Clarks Eugene L. Jackson 21 of Tallulah 100 Fish St and Arthur Thurmond 19 of Sondheimer were charged with armed robbery and attempted murder. The store owner J. E Goodrum was knocked out but not seriously injured.
West Monroe figure Bert Hatten clashes with Ouachita Parish School Board over a proposed bond to fund school renovations. Disputes center on tax distribution and the split of the parish, with litigation possible to remove board members. Local tensions flare after a 1972 city council meeting.
A Winn Parish man was killed in a one vehicle accident about 10 a.m. on La. Map near three miles south of State police said. He was driving a log truck and no other details were available.
