Superintendents Back Pay Raises For School Staff In Fifth District
The Fifth District School Superintendents Association endorsed a proposed salary schedule for school personnel. Meeting in Natchez Mississippi the group supported pay raises for teachers and a 10 percent rise for non teacher staff. The plan backed by Supt Morelle Emmons Monroe and Supt Van D Odom aims to place the proposal before the Legislature next May with cost estimates around 38 million dollars.

Titan rocket test fires from Pacific range
A Titan rocket was launched successfully from the Pacific missile range in a routine Strategic Air Command test. The 103 foot multi stage missile traveled over 5 600 miles before reaching its target area. Details of the firing were not released.
