John W Willis Sr of Raville La testified he paid Kellogg for poetry that was not published and he abandoned the scheme.
Washington DC December 17 The opening social season at the White House under President Wilson will feature a Cabinet dinner tomorrow and a series of diplomatic, judiciary, and congressional receptions on Thursday evenings plus dinners for the Speaker. The New Year reception is omitted, and the Army and Navy reception closes the season on February 15 with many events for the President’s circle.

Reports from Lebel in Chihuahua and Juarez publicize a decree amid Mexican turmoil. Congal Letcher told the State Department Americans faced no mistreatment in Cahohuahu and that he was not snubbed by General Villa. Admiral Pletcher said Tampico's refugees returned and rebels camped eighteen miles away.
General Villa issues decree at Chihuahua City ordering seizure of the Terrazas and Creel families estates including banks mines land and cattle. Mobile December 17 three men escaped the city jail by digging a hole in a brick wall. George Glover George Stone and Frank Olsen fled to avoid pursuit. Stone was sought in Alabama Mississippi and Florida for pretending to be an insurance agent. Glover faced swindling charges and Olsen for highway robbery.
Charges of irregularities in dealings between John Burke the Panama Canal commissary transfer and contractors are under investigation. Subordinates alleged Burke demanded large commissions and profited about 560000 dollars. His aviary was 34500 and it is estimated he bought five to six million dollars in supplies.
An early morning incident in Winnfield Louisiana ends with a frightened impostor fleeing after being accused by J A Mashaw of posing as a deaf mute to beg for funds.
