Two Boys Die In Bomb Making Accident At Masonic Home
In Covina near Los Angeles two teen boys died when a bomb they were making from pipe exploded in their dormitory room at the Masonic Home for Children. Samuel Abrahms 15 died in the hallway of blast injuries. Lawrence Houtz 17 died at a hospital. Roy Bauer 15 survived shock. Authorities say the explosion was a youthful experiment and that Houtz had made smaller bombs before. Superintendent John Downen said the source of the explosive materials is unknown.

Cotton ginned in Morehouse parish rises this season
As of December 1, 1943, Morehouse parish reports 31,037 bales ginned for the current cotton season, up from 29,414 bales ginned by the same date last year. A related note describes an 1879 400-ton testing machine at an army ordnance arsenal, costing $31,500 and capable of testing strength with an eight hundred-thousand pound load, as the prototype for later hydraulic testing machines.

Paroled youth from Louisiana missing in Oak Grove
Fifteen year old Albert Beeson on parole from the Louisiana Training Institute disappeared from his Oak Grove home on December 15. He reportedly bought a bus ticket to Monroe with seven dollars and may have headed to Lake Charles. Description notes he is 5 feet 4 inches, 115 pounds, brown hair, blue eyes, freckled face. He wore a brown jacket and was bare headed.
