Edith M Bishop wife of Luther Bishop state detective was held on a murder charge amid a week of investigation. Authorities say pistols found near the bedroom were key while questioning many suspects with prior records.
Senate Republican leaders warned senator elect Frank L. Smith not to accept the Illinois seat left by the late McKinley while disclosures from the campaign funds inquiry loom. A pending resolution seeks to seat Smith, as Democrats resist his assumption citing the probe. Indiana's Sen Watson urged Smith to decline to avert a Senate session. Governor Small said he was not discussing a Senate appointment.
Monroe officials led by Mayor Arnold Bernstein and Commissioners Breard and Atkinson address opposition to a $600 000 forty year waterworks bond. The crew denied mutiny, saying they asked the captain to stay off shore and he refused, locking them in the bow and delaying departure for nearly a day.
River stages reported for several cities show rises and falls. Memphis records 21.2 with a 0.6 rise, Vicksburg 1.5 with a 0.3 fall, New Orleans 10.4 with a 0.1 rise, Red River at Shreveport 17.1 up 1.0, Alexandria 10.6 up 1.5, Ouachita at Camden 14.2 down 0.9 and Monroe 14.9 down 0.3.

City registrar B D Hodges reports 707 residents registered to vote in the upcoming January 18 bond election. Registration closes next Saturday with daily hours 8 am to 5 pm this week and a rush expected on the last day. Qualified voters must meet general election rules and own city assessed property or vehicles.
Clyde Miller aged 24 of Alexandria died in a local hospital after being crushed between two logs at a Bayou Flagon site near the lumber yard. Miller, an employee of the Fred Brenner Lumber Company, was fatally injured when a log shifted and pinned him between logs.
Alexandria. Mrs Mary Ruth Buckner 31 wife of a local well known real estate man shot herself at home this morning and died after 15 minutes. Despondency from illness is set as probable cause by coroner Dr Marvin Cappel. Survived by husband A J Buckner three children and eight brothers and sisters.
Kenneth Ormiston, the fugitive radio man linked to the Aimee Semple McPherson case, is ill with a severe cold delaying his surrender to California authorities. Chicago officials filed a fugitive warrant based on Los Angeles warrants while Ormiston vows to resist removal and fight extradition.
Shreveport report says Mexican officials refuse cooperation in extraditing Eddie Cox, wanted in Yazoo Mississippi for murder. Detec tive Frank Walker sought Cox in Mexico, but border refusal forced him to return to Ferriday. Walker plans to try again after January 1.
