Governor's Son Reported On State Payroll

Baton Rouge Louisiana. State Banking Commissioner J W Jeansonne confirms James William Davis son of the governor held a 600 a month unclassified state job as a special deputy in the department of banks. He resigned to take a post with American Bank & Trust Co in Baton Rouge. Davis worked since Sept 16 on investigative duties including some confidential work. Henry Davis says his nephew's wife recently worked as a student worker in his office and illness kept her from returning.

Ruling On Gas In State Cited

The Federal Power Commission ruled that an in place sale of natural gas in Louisiana by Pan American Petroleum Corp to Tennessee Gas Transmission Co is subject to its jurisdiction. The gas rights in Bastion Bay field southern Louisiana were sold for 159,463,500 with redetermination possible.

Channel Funds Approved For Ouachita Black River Channel

Congress approved an appropriations bill sending 1,300,000 for nine foot channel construction in the Ouachita and Black Rivers as part of a 4.4 billion public works package. Grayson Guthrie of the Ouachita Valley River Association said the year long funding goes to the Army Corps of Engineers in 1964 with initial excavation at Columbia and a service building to begin within ten days. Construction should start soon after contracting.
