The statement notes General Estrada’s troops advancing toward La Piedad Michoacan for the first major Obregon confrontation.
San Antonio dispatch reports General Guadalupe Sanchez leading a 25 000 strong force from Vera Cruz toward Mexico City with advances reaching Perote Esperanza and Oriental. Outposts and De La Huerta troops rout Obregonista garrisons as plans for an assault on Mexico City unfold.
Washington December 12 E L Jones director of the Coast Geodetic Survey urged a nationwide earthquake study similar to California work. He cited disturbances in Canada Maine New York Illinois Kentucky Indiana Missouri Montana Utah Arizona Washington California and offshore Oregon. He said mapping potential quake sites would guide dam sites and reclamation plans.
In Atlanta on December 12, leaders from the Evans and Simmons factions of the Ku Klux Klan attend the trial of Phillips E. Fox charged with murder in the Coburn case. Fox, editor of the Knight Hawk, is linked to the Evans faction. Coburn’s death spurs factional conflicts mostly through court fights.

Margaret Weaver of Columbus Ohio was named as an associate before the fact in the slaying of Captain W S Coburn. The indictment followed evidence cited by Philip E Fox solicitor general Boykin's office. Additional indictments against several others were indicated but not named.

Six workers faced delays from rain while the population estimate for Monroe and West Monroe nears 26 000. the 300 page book will include city descriptions and building photos in half leather binding.

On the first ballot Cummins and Smith tied at 40 each, La Follette 8. Bruce backed Cummins on the second ballot as Ladd joined Smith. Third ballot shows Smith 41 Cummins 40 La Follette 2, with adjournment to noon Saturday and balloting to resume Monday.
In Los Angeles on December 12, former cabinet official McAdoo criticized Coolidge for a stagnant message to Congress. He labeled the plan for railroad consolidation a seven year delay and urged immediate action plus tax reduction and better care for veterans. He condemned veteran bureau graft and called for constructive railroad policy to address major Democratic concerns.
Millions of large brown butterflies moved southward across a highway near Santa Barbara California obscuring the road and making driving difficult. At times motorists could hardly see the roadway due to the dense swarms.
