In Vincennes Indiana on December 12 1900 or nearby date preparations were complete for the trial of S Edward Stibbins charged with first degree murder in the killing of his father George W Stibbins on November 17 near Petersburg. Robbers Looted Mail Car Near Hartleville
Two men boarded the Atlantic line train at Hartleville South Carolina and forced the engineer to stop. They ransacked the northbound mail car securing several sacks of registered mail while two mail clerks delivered two bags to the robbers. A second train arrived too late to help. Engineer Rawley and the fireman on the special train were injured in the pursuit. Officials and detectives arrived hours later.
