President Eisenhower discussed shaping a 1956 nomination toward a progressive moderate path if he runs or not. He rejected personal feuds with Senator McCarthy while noting talk of a possible extreme right faction leaving the GOP to form a new party.
Gales and high tides from the Irish Sea flooded about 6,900 Dublin homes and left thousands stranded. Power and communications were knocked out as authorities evacuated residents and troops aided emergency operations across five square miles near the city center. No deaths were reported.

In Boutte along Highway 90 two cars crashed killing Lillie Vedros 15 Ben Antoine Sampey 38 and Mrs Ernest Barrios. Ten others were injured and transported to St Ann's hospital Raceland. Names include Sampey wife Lois Sampey 40 Elvis Sampey 19 Percy Vedros 20 and others from Des Allemands Paradis Lockport.
A Philadelphia surgeon reports successfully treating stubborn epilepsy by removing half of a child's brain and filling the cavity with salt water. The body absorbs the solution, leaving half the skull empty while the child retains intelligence and shows no fits or antisocial behavior, according to Dr. Eugene P. Spitz of Children’s Hospital.
Cleveland Norris a 50 year old one armed Negro man died of natural causes after being found in a Brooklyn Bar booth. Neighbors and Dorothy Mae Ware reported Norris had prior heart trouble and high blood pressure. Dr J T French Ouachita parish coroner ruled natural death. Body at Lamothe Funeral Home. Bar operator said Norris drank four pints of wine before resting.
A House of Commons bill calls for up to two years in jail for dangerous driving and adds fines up to 56 dollars for jaywalking when pedestrians disobey a traffic officer.

George and Charles Finn, 40, win a federal ruling declaring them legal owners of a C-46 war surplus transport plane seized after a Bakersfield flight. The brothers, former Air Force fliers, had faced imprisonment for alleged rights violations and staged protests including a hunger strike.
Reports say Indochina National Army clashes with 2000 Hao Hao rebels in West Cochin China. Rebels struck Long Xuyen, 95 miles from Saigon, killing no one as three French soldiers were wounded by mortar fire.
