A Louisiana conference explained how nine state districts will assist farmers in securing loans offered by the farm administration. Speakers Jesse B rent and R. L. Thompson outlined aims for county extension work with meetings set in several towns from November 14 to December 22.
Louisiana State University marks Military Day with a 32 plane Twentieth Pursuit Group flyover from Barksdale field at 1 55 p m followed by a cadet parade and flag ceremony. The LSU Tennessee football game will proceed after ceremonies with intermission color spelling by the Turk card display system. Baton Rouge Chamber of Commerce hosts officers with a dance later Saturday.
Dorothy Massey and Gibson McManus wed quietly November 18 at the bride’s home in Eros Louisiana with Rev. A Williams of Chatham officiating. The bride, daughter of Ocie and Massey, had eloped to California two years earlier with W Oglesbee and now resides on a local farm. The groom, son of J O McManus, is a local farmer. They plan to live on a nearby farm.
Six additional loans were reported by the Home Owners' Corporation on Friday marking the busiest week since offices opened. At a Friday meeting of the Monroe Welfare association plans were set for member participation in Good Fellows activities. A purchasing committee was named with Mrs. L. W. Mobley and Mrs. Blanche Granary. A home visitation committee was chosen with Mrs. Jonas Selig and Mrs. S. H. McClary to assess needs. A report on financing the Mary Goss home, a local Negro institution, was given by Mrs. W. A. Walker, Sr.
About 100 men work southwest of West Monroe to deepen and straighten the Black Bayou channel and remove obstructions from a flood protection area. Supervisor A W Riggs says the project will greatly improve drainage once completed, with 66 working days needed for about 100 workers. S. H. Humphries is in New Orleans seeking government bonds for pumps to lift drainage water over the levee.
Jean Ballard of Biloxi Mississippi a senior at the University of Iowa has been elected a member of the Phi Beta Kappa fraternity.
The RFC has invested 425 million dollars in capital notes and preferred stock of 1 275 banks to boost liquidity in the banking system. Board authorizations are final, with 256 banks represented including 11 large New York institutions, accounting for about 108 million.
A fire early today in Sault Ste. Marie Michigan killed seven people sleeping in a residence. Victims include Genevieve Hibblin and her four children ages 8 6 5 and 2 and Erline Orr and her 18 month old daughter Constance. The blaze, blamed on an overheated stove, gutted the interior before neighbors noticed.
Washington dispatch reports the NRA is drafting a plan to form governmental boards including labor and consumer representatives to oversee coded industries. Labor seeks a seat on governing committees but was rebuffed to avoid disrupting the NRA business alliance. Industrialists pressed officials, leading to an indefinite formula offering labor a front seat among reviewing authorities without full partnership.
