Mrs. Dave Reno of Monroe shares a letter from her son Pete written in the Philippines dated November 12 1944. He describes air battles with Japanese Zeros near his base, observations of dogfights, and the strain of raids while awaiting transport and supplies.
Funeral for Thomas Walter Beauchamp 70 retired lumberman of Monroe and Clarks will be held Friday at 2 p m at Davis Lawhead Funeral Home with interment in Riverview Burial Park. Pallbearers are G O Gray E M Steeley Bowen Zeigler C C Green C E McGee J D Stuart W E Meredith and Evans Reitzell of Clarks. Beauchamp worked 40 years with Louisiana Central Lumber Co. at Clarks, retired last February, and lived with daughter Mrs W E Bennett at 2911 South Grand St. He belonged to First Baptist Church Clarks Masonic Lodge and Monroe Knights Templar. Survived by wife four daughters and a son.
The War Production Board allocated 2,000,000 pounds of cotton yarn to ease the shortage of infants and children's underwear and sleeping garments. Chairman J. A. Krug estimated that future production will meet at least 80 percent of current demand, though full ample stocks in all stores may not be achieved.
Krug outlined a continuous flow of yarn to stores nationwide with 2,000,000 pounds allocated. This would back 13,000,000 additional children’s undergarments and sleeping garments. Last quarter produced 32,000,000 units and 35,000,000 are planned for the first quarter of 1945.
