A breach of promise suit opens in Oxford District Court with Birkhead seeking damages. Many witnesses are ordered to be ready as the unusual case proceeds.
Langley Field Langley Virginia Major Guy Gearhart Captain A Doyle and four enlisted men died when a Martin bomber collided with a Fokker during landing. Enlisted men Marsick Blanka Jordan Rolas perished as the planes burned. The crash occurred near the Hamp ton Normal School farm.
In Oxford Mississippi December 6 a jury was chosen and trial began for Miss Frances C Birkhead's damages suit against Governor Lee M Russell seeking 100000. The case opened in federal court with the defense denying all allegations and Miss Birkhead's declaration detailing alleged wrongs.
At the Interstate Commerce conference Washington on December 6 railroad leaders from Missouri Pacific Chicago Rock Island and Pacific Louisville and Nashville St Louis San Francisco and others urged removal of priority service orders. Washington reports that counterfeit bills are rising tied to bootleg liquor. W H Moran, chief of the secret service, told the house appropriations committee that fake notes are used to buy liquor and pass at ports and aboard ships. He cited cases totaling 1500 dollars in counterfeit twenties and fifties and 1200 dollars in raised notes.
The United Natural Oil & Gas Products Corporation's Fee No. 1 well in section 8-19-5 east produced an estimated 20 million cubic feet of gas daily on Tuesday. It is the second major Monroe gas field well brought in within a week. The blowout tore up tools and rigging, but no crew injuries were reported as drillers controlled the gas and the well remained in good condition.
