Mississippi guardsmen pursuing escaped convict Virgil Dunn corner his home in Neshoba county. Dunn is shot three times during a confrontation as a detachment under Adjutant General Hairston and Governor Bilbo pursue sealed orders from Jackson. Newspaper men trail the convoy to the scene.

A gaming czar has been kidnapped for ransom in a case attributed to Detroit or Chicago racketeers. Authorities probe the motive and connections as the man’s whereabouts remain unknown.
Ed Alvey a 60 year old famed Louisville gambler known as king of the track, is kidnapped from his home after his wife leaves. Ransom demand of 59 000 surfaced when captors telephoned an employee to cash Alveys 50 000 check. Detectives assigned as Mrs Alvey fears for his safety.
In Baton Rouge Louisiana on December 5 E M Brians a 62 year old former railroad worker killed himself with a shotgun last night after fatally shooting his former cook Jim Winze a Negro man Police sought details from Brians sister Mrs Edwin Moore of Shawnee Oklahoma as they awaited identification and motive for the double death and the room in which the killings occurred remains under investigation
Fire at Louisburg College in Henderson North Carolina destroyed the main building early today forcing 75 girls and teachers to flee in night attire. Loss estimated at 100000. All 250 to 300 students sent home for Christmas as repairs begin. Two Knox sisters alerted by ringing the school bell saving many lives.
Washington December 5 Prohibition Commissioner Doran told a House appropriations sub committee that liquor smuggling from Canada remains the worst problem in dairy law enforcement. He urged revising the Canadian liquor treaty to stop cargoes clearing to the United States noting most comes via Detroit and that fake labels and stamped bonds aid illicit sales.
Washington December 5 Congress begins a three month session with Senate and House moving to resume work on legislation dropped for the presidential campaign. The Boulder Canyon dam fight again stirs the Senate while the House fast tracks supply bills and naval measures.
Preston Quinn aged 19 died instantly at a plant in Hodge Louisiana when his head was caught in a rolling paper roll while reaching over. Son of Mrs Novie Galloway, he was a former member of C F Byrd High School Shreveport yellow jacket track team and ran the 50 100 and 200 yard dashes. His body was sent from Ruston to Shreveport after services arranged through an undertaker in Ruston.
John W. Harrell a 28 year old local attorney from Ruston was designated as assistant United States district attorney in New Orleans. He is a Tulane Law School graduate who succeeds Edmond E. Talbot after Talbot became district attorney when Wayne G. Borah became district judge.

Willie Collie aged 25 died at Monroe Hospital following injuries from being struck and dragged by a moving truck October 16 near Calhoun. Charlottesville Virginia December 5 Henry Hiden Chewning an automobile salesman is held for the grand jury on a charge of killing James Keith Summers Jr a two year old University of Virginia student Summers from Rye New York Bail was set at 10000 at the preliminary hearing Chewning claims the shooting was accidental others testified he had been drinking and caused a disturbance at the restaurant where the killing occurred Summers was the son of a New York attorney and had attended Harvard before Virginia university enrollment.
Five bandits raided Junction City Arkansas near the Louisiana line early today. They robbed the Merchants and Farmers bank of 162 dollars in small change, then the MacDonald Drug Store of about 100 dollars and some jewelry, and the First National bank of nothing. They captured night watchman Jim Richardson, tied his hands, and beat him. a negro janitor Bob Sawyer discovered the crime.
