Collision Fatal To Woman On La. 15 Near Drew School
A 29 year old West Monroe woman, Barbara T Varino, died when her car crossed into the southbound lane and struck a gravel truck driven by 19 year old John E Bradshaw. The crash occurred about 10 45 am near Drew School as state police and Ouachita deputies investigated and Monroe Rescue Unit freed the victim. No charges filed pending investigation.

Area Deputy Shot Killed in East Carroll Parish
Deputy Morris Houston age 52 was shot and killed at 8 am while escorting a mental patient to Pineville. Sheriff Sam House said Houston and Deputy Bob Custer were handcuffing Charlie Edwards when a scuffle broke out and Houston was shot in the back and side with his own gun. He was pronounced dead on arrival at East Carroll Parish Hospital. Houston had eight years with the department.

Child Dies After Crossing Road To Bus Stop In Farmerville
A six year old Farmerville girl Amelia Jo Simpson was struck by an eastbound pickup while crossing Sterlington Highway to wait for a school bus. She was pronounced dead at Union General Hospital after the 7:45 am accident inside Farmerville city limits. Henry Johnson Jr., 43, of 803 Angle St. was driving the pickup. Deputies from Union Parish Sheriff and Farmerville Police are continuing to investigate.
