President Syngman Rhee calls for an immediate all-out offensive to eject Chinese forces from North Korea without Allied or Japanese help. He says Russia would not enter a world war and criticizes Panmunjom talks and the India peace proposal.
Miss Helen Erskine a junior at Ouachita Parish High School was chosen to represent Monroe in the state Voice of Democracy contest. The selection occurred at a Monday Junior Chamber of Commerce meeting in the Cameo Room of the Virginia Hotel. Other contestants were Annette Monk Neville High School and Betty Ann Ebirts St Matthews.
Monroe-West Monroe Chamber of Commerce announced ongoing negotiations with Tremont Lumber for moving their large operation to West Monroe. Officials visited several potential sites with Tremont representatives and local businessmen as plans include a treating plant and eventual payroll near 2 million dollars, with final site decisions pending.
New Orleans Gov. Kennon announces an eight point plan to cut Louisiana traffic fatalities which run 2 percent per million miles above the national average. The program covers engineering, administration, laws, enforcement, accident reporting, education, public support and information. M. J. Lasseigne elected president of the Louisiana Safety Association.
Representative Overton Brooks of Louisiana urged increased government spending on U S waterways while cutting foreign project funding. He spoke before the Intracoastal Canal Association where about 150 members from Louisiana and Texas attended. Dale Miller, executive vice president, noted the canal moves over 35 million tons of cargo annually.
A Newellton woman, Mrs. Lenatta Merritt, was injured Tuesday when her automobile overturned on Highway 80 in the Lafourche swamp while she was en route to Monroe. Hospital attendants could not confirm injuries but said she was not seriously hurt. Details of the accident remained unavailable Tuesday morning.
An 18 month old daughter of Air Force sergeant Tearle Wafford died at Wright Bendel clinic as the family, en route from Lake Charles to Chanute Field, passed through Monroe. Police rushed the child to the clinic after a call reporting convulsions at 5:30 am. The Waffords, with three older children, were traveling in a pickup pulling a house trailer.
Washington dispatch reports Rear Admiral Sidney W Souers former New Orleans banker now in Deer Park Missouri was cited by President Truman for the Distinguished Service Medal. The award noted meritorious service strong security program foresight and tireless efforts in intelligence work including his roles with the Central Intelligence Agency and National Security Council.

James E. Walker, arrested for burning Calvary Baptist Church on July 15, was declared insane at the time of the crimes by Ouachita Parish coroner J. T. French. He had also confessed to starting Zion Hill Baptist Church fire on July 5 and attempted to ignite Union Oil Mill in West Monroe. Walker remains under consideration for commitment to a state hospital for criminal insanity unless he is found sane.

Eight inspection teams from the Fourth Army inspector general office began a statewide review of all 88 National Guard units in 35 cities. Col. Frank G. Spiess said inspections run through December 12 and will include presentations of the Army Guard Award for Efficiency in Training to sixteen units.
Mrs. J. R. Steele 86, mother of Mrs. Shelby M. Jackson Louisiana state superintendent of education, died after a long illness in Harrisonburg. Services were held at Young's Funeral Home Ferriday with interment in Monterey. Survivors include three daughters Eva and others, two sons L. R. Steele and Gaston Steele, a brother C. M. Scott, ten grandchildren and nine great.
