A Swiss soldier in Romanshorn opened fire from a window wounding seven, killing four as police and citizens besieged the house. the attacker escaped to the forests amid a panicked night. In Kentucky a tailor killed his wife and lawyer with a hatchet in a divorce case, wrecked his shop and attempted suicide. The wife died, the lawyer and attacker fatally wounded. the attorney survives.
Associated Press reports renewed interest in the Lawrence dynamite plot as another prominent figure, similar in stature to William M. Wood, faces possible indictment for conspiracy to distribute dynamite. In Boston President Taft arrives from Columbus en route to Beverly by car this morning.
Baton Rouge August 30 The first campaign against the segregation amendment will open in Zachary with R J Hum mel of Baton Rouge speaking against the measure He argues it departs from segregation when it brings in private corporations and could allow future legislatures to extend it He has accepted several invitations to speak and more meetings are planned after the Sept 3 Democratic primary.
A car in an automobile race at Elgin Illinois collided with a fence injuring George Clark and a mechanician who were seriously hurt.
Washington August 31 The public health service removed passenger quarantine restrictions at American ports for travelers arriving from Cuba following Havana plague outbreak. Cargo restrictions on shipments from Cuba remain in force.

Wheaton August 31. H B Landon of Elgin was killed and two other occupants were probably fatally injured when the automobile they rode to the Elgin auto races was struck by an interurban electric car near here.
New York August 31 John Jacob Astor posthumous heir to Colonel Astor who perished on the Titanic was formally served with papers in probate proceedings for his father's will. The physician at the infant's birth said notice was served for the baby to appear in court on September 4 either in person or by guardian. The infant is named as beneficiary in the will.
In El Paso Texas arrangements were made for a Senate subcommittee inquiry into whether American money supported the Orozco or Madero revolutions in Mexico.
Washington reports from American Minister Weitzel in Managua say previous statements that conditions in Nicaragua border on anarchy are repeated.
