Herbert Herman chased a thief who stole a $200 ring and $94 wallet from his bedroom. The thief fled out the back door, but Herman paused after noting he had just been taking a shower.
A weather related series of 19 accidents occurred across West Monroe and surrounding areas. Byron F. Henry, 69, died in a two vehicle collision on Arkansas Road near West Monroe shortly after 8 p.m. Wednesday. Five others were injured in the rain slicked highways.

A federal mediated meeting produced mutual blame as LOCWU asserts company demands block settlement. 1,200 workers seek a new contract after 10 months without one. Other Shell facilities in Houston and Wood River also struck.

Survivors include wife Stella, daughter Ward Walden Beaumont TX, son Henry J Thibeadeaux Shreveport, and a grandchild. Also reports a multiple vehicle collision in West Monroe with injuries and DUI arrest.
UPI reports emergency aid to Cameron Louisiana tornado victims with nine commodities moved from state warehouses. John J Slaughter, area director, said the Louisiana State Welfare Department requested the assistance and the American Red Cross is distributing it. About 430 people were fed, with canned chopped beef and sandwich items among the provisions.
U S marshal plans to arrest two of three men indicted by a federal grand jury in a rice acreage allotments probe. David C. Stephens and Laurence G. Newman named. Tacitus C. Thornhill hospitalized. Bonds set at 10000, 1500, and 2000 respectively. Thornhill hospitalized since Aug 22. Newman accused of conspiracy to defraud. Other details relate to bribe counts and procedures.
