New Pool Opens For Negroes At City Recreation Center
A $100,000 swimming pool for Negroes will open Friday at the Windham Johnson Recreation Center on Berg Jones Lane. It will operate 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily for the season, with Labor Day night as the closing time. The pool, built with city funds by W. C. Salley and designed by Rivers and Heuer, holds 250 000 gallons and mirrors two other new pools in Monroe. This marks the second new pool for Negroes in recent months as part of the city recreation program that now has four centers.
