A reshuffle in Monroe legal talent leads to two new firms forming. Carl McHenry teams with Henry Montgomery to form McHenry & Montgomery with offices above New South drug store. Henry Millsaps dissolves with Montgomery and partners with R H Oliver Jr to create Millsaps & Oliver in the Central Savings Bank building.

Rep Johnson proposes presidential authority to seize railroads and coal mines while chair Winslow notes abandonment of a buying agency. Senate action awaits, with Hoover urging price restraint.
The Railroad Labor Board rejected a request to define a living wage for maintenance of way workers seeking higher minimum rates. Prolonged hearings adjourned as union leaders push for a mandatory living wage while eastern roads oppose striking trackmen joining the case.
Monroe Louisiana Chamber of Commerce sends a telegram to Henry Ford urging him to move his Detroit plant to Monroe. The message touts the region as the greatest gas field with cheap natural gas, free factory sites, affordable labor, favorable climate, and year round river and rail access to markets.

After prior threats, Vice President A P Titus of the Chicago and Alton Railroad reports the first train in sixty hours leaving Roadhouse for St Louis as the men agree to resume work for now with daytime runs.
Monroe Mayor Arnold Bernstein telegrams Henry Ford inviting a plant to Monroe in the heart of the world’s greatest gas field. He cites Monroe’s cheap natural gas, ideal climate, river access to the Gulf, and low fuel costs as reasons to consider immediate investigation.
The Chilean steamship Itata of 2200 tons sank today off the coast near Coquimbo. All 150 passengers and 72 crew members are reported lost.
Ford Motor Company warned in Detroit that unless coal is secured from an unexpected source, all manufacturing departments in the Detroit district will shut down on September 15. Mr. Ford rejected rising coal prices as harmful to the wider economy and other manufacturers.
Families and workers cling to hope as 47 to 48 miners trapped since midnight Sunday in the Argonaut mine near Jackson California battle for life. Crews dig a 600 foot tunnel between the Kennedy and Argonaut shafts to reach the trapped men amid flames and collapsing shafts.
Rescue workers lowered canaries into the Argonaut mine shaft near Jackson California to test air quality as flames raged from the 3 000 foot level upward. Birds were returned injured or dead and the tests showed descent to 2 700 feet was possible but deeper work would be perilous.
Final organization of the Credit Men’s Association of Monroe and West Mon roe was effected Monday night in the Chamber of Commerce. H Touch stone presided with 51 members signed and about 30 more expected. Talks by leading Monroe merchants highlighted the meeting and interest in the future Credit Association. Investigation by Sheriff Grant and Deputy Roper refutes rumors that Watt Daniels and Samuel Richards of Mer Rouge were kidnapped and sent to Monroe. Officials found no evidence of their presence in St. Francis Sanitarium or elsewhere, and local leaders deny any planned raids or further violence.
In Bastrop on August 29 Cedric Daniels 21 reportedly tried to take his own life. Police and emergency responders were called to the scene and reported the incident as a suicide attempt. Further details were to be released on continuation.
