In Saigon the Viet Cong overran Tan Nhut outpost eight miles southwest of the city and attacked surrounding districts along a 27 mile front. U.S. spokesmen reported heavy Vietnamese casualties and equipment losses, while patrols and air support countered the assaults. More than 6,000 troops cleared Highway 21 in a major two day operation. US strength in South Vietnam reached about 91,000 with the latest 2,000 troops landing.

Mutilated Negro Man Succumbs in Alabama

Fire Insurance Rate Hikes Approved by Louisiana Panel

In New Orleans federal voter examiners in Plaquemines Parish are registering people not meeting Louisiana rules on age and residency, said Council President Leander Perez. He seeks court action to halt processing of applications, noting the state requires 21 years old, one year in state, and six months in parish.
