Woman Held in Infant Death in Monroe

Monroe detectives and Ouachita Parish sheriffs arrested a 27 year old Monroe woman, Oga Lee Whitfield, on murder charges in the death of her seven month old child. The infant’s body was found in the river near the levee by Maple Street. Whitfield initially said the child was visiting relatives in Arkansas but later allegedly admitted involvement.

Woman Injured In Auto Crash Near West Monroe

Ernestine Tisdale of 901 Arkansas road was taken to St Francis sanitarium with bruises to hips and legs after a Sunday morning collision on Louisville avenue. Cleo Graham, 23, of Barksdale, faces three charges including operating under the influence and causing injury with bond set at $730. He reportedly struck Marion Ware Johnson as Johnson slowed at 1400 Louisville.

The Consumer's Food Market at 519 Washington street was burglarized late Saturday night or Sunday morning, with about $1,000 in cash and checks taken after the safe was blasted open. Entry was gained by prying the front door lock. James Eppinette, proprietor, reported the theft to the Monroe police Sunday morning. the incident occurred between 9 p.m. Saturday and 6:45 a.m. Sunday. Police detectives are investigating.
