A mob in Oklahoma attacked and burned a Black individual on a public street, followed by the cremation of a white woman. The incident reflects lynching era violence with claimed racial motives and public chaos.
A mob of about three thousand in Purcell Oklahoma burned to death Peter Carter a black man accused of assaulting Mrs Minnie Spraggins and setting her house ablaze despite sheriff and deputy pleas for due process. Carter was seized near the rail yard and executed on a brush pile by a telephone pole as cars watched. Mrs Spraggins survived after being struck with a gas pipe and beaten into unconsciousness.
Tonight and Thursday expect generally cloudy skies with showers. Temperatures remain mild with intermittent rain chances across the period.
Eyewitnesses describe a mob gathering around a burned body after a negro man set a mattress on fire and attacked a woman with a pipe. Her husband rescued his unconscious wife as the flames consumed the victim. The crowd cheered and dispersed with minimal violence while leaders faced praise from onlookers.
