John Schmidt, 45, German-born resident of Rhinehart LaSalle parish, bludgeoned his 18-year-old stepdaughter Jolly to death with an axe and fatally injured his wife, fleeing to the woods as a posse led by Sheriff L. M. Davis pursued him. The killings occurred about 3 AM. the house showed blood and a gory scene. Schmidt, previously released on bail for a prior axe attack on his wife, remains at large with a serpents tattoo on one arm. the wife was alive at noon but not expected to survive.
