James B. Aswell of Louisiana charged that Republican nominee Hughes misrepresented his records as governor of New York and pursues a political bid to woo women with a federal suffrage amendment. In Marshall Texas on August 23 Matt Terry was killed and James Rosborough arrested after a shooting in front of Dr Mahon infirmary. Terry earlier was wounded July 25 in a duel with Rosborough on South Washington avenue.
