Private service in Los Angeles attended only by relatives and close friends. Rogers was remembered for longtime community work and credited with shaping local initiatives. The funeral drew a small circle, with no public viewing or ceremony.
Will Rogers funeral events reflect a national pause as more than a hundred relatives and friends attend private services in Beverly Hills. Hollywood studios and theaters nationwide dimmed for two minutes while governors and cities scheduled moments of silence. A brief public service at Forest Lawn Glendale featured Rev J Whitcomb Brougher and John Boles, with 400 officers directing traffic and a standstill across the motion picture industry.
Massapequa New York reports an abortive uprising by simian residents at Frank Buck's Long Island zoo. Authorities say 173 monkeys fled their reserve after Capone the Rhesus led rebels. 45 captured, one fatality from contact with a charged rail. Buck warns of 2000 more monkeys planned to join.

In Santa Rosa 300 self-styled vigilantes hunted agitators through the night. They tarred and feathered Jack Green and Solomon Nitzburg at a ranch near Two Rocks and beat Ed Wolf George Ford and C Meyer before ordering them to leave the country. Gunfire and tear gas filled the raid as a car-driven mob forced Green to summon the rancher. The crowd shouted Shoot To Kill as buckshot erupted.

She had been told to pay up or leave and had sought a children's home but was denied due to inability to guarantee weekly payment.
In Brasov Romania a steel frame under construction for a new airplane hangar collapsed, killing twenty workers and injuring thirty. Authorities feared more may be buried under debris and arrested the architects in connection with the disaster.
Backers of the measure finally obtain 17 percent signatures securing privileged status for the Patman bill as opening day proceedings begin.
Washington August 22 A bid to bring the Patman 2 000 000 000 dollar bonus inflation bill to the floor failed to secure a vote this session. Backers collected 217 signatures to move the measure from the Ways and Means Committee. Votes on petitions occur only on the second and fourth Mondays of each month, delaying action until Congress reconvenes. The proposal would issue over 2 billion dollars in currency to veterans as immediate payment of adjusted compensation certificates.

A federal probe in Buford Georgia investigates a wholesale extortion scheme demanding over 50 000 and threatening death to 15 members of eight prominent northern Georgia families. The National Federation of Young Men’s clubs and the Louisiana Federation of Young Women’s clubs plan their fourth annual convention at Hotel Frances on September 1 and 2 with an expected 500 attendees. Delegations will come from Shreveport Alexandria Opelousas Baton Rouge Lake Charles and other cities in Louisiana. George Guerriero president and Philip Lisotta secretary lead the national body with Mrs Sam Falco Jr president of the women’s group. Dr Vitale Gallina Italian consul in New Orleans will speak. Mayor LaGuardia of New York has been invited but may not attend. Chairmen and vice chairmen of committees are named ahead of the gathering.
Fort Smith Arkansas August 22 Sheriff Jack Pace and Police Chief Mike Gordon departed to Shreveport Louisiana to extradite a man detained as Peg ONeill. He faces burglary and grand larceny charges tied to an August 8 theft of 500 dollars worth of drugs from a local firm.
Harris contends no United States money was accepted, noting funds totaled 1,000,000 a year before last. The assertion centers on currency usage and financial practices during the period in question.

President Roosevelt vetoed a bill to reimburse cost of flowage rights along the Mississippi river. The proposal would pay for lands protected by the main levee as of May 15, 1928, now on the river side of the levee line under a new flood control plan. The veto cited objections from the secretary of war to the measure.
