Governor Carl E Bailey abandons a $140 million state highway refunding plan amid controversy after defeat in the Democratic primary. The measure was not pursued for approval at the November general election.

Washington Aug 16 WPA aid was enlisted by the justice department to assist in registering and fingerprinting more than 3 500 000 aliens in the United States. The program, directed by Congress, runs from August 27 to December 26. Commissioner F C Harrington said WPA would publicize the registration requirements and help aliens fill out and file forms.
