Washington August 16 The Navy Department will open bids today for sixteen new submarines authorized by Congress and for two sea- giving submarines to exceed 25 knots surface speed. The government will spend about 8 million dollars amid strong competition for the contracts.
J T Austin on a northern tour posted 98 of 100 in the first event and 9 in the second at the Missouri state shoot in St Louis. Mrs Austin scored 65 and 68 while Mrs Steve Bourke posted 66 and 59. they were the only women in the St Louis meet. Col F M Donohoe of Queen & Crescent Route visited Monroe today.
