Trade Balance Deficit Improves in Second Quarter

The Commerce Department reported a dramatic improvement in the nations balance of payments deficit for the April June quarter. Using the official reserve transactions basis the deficit narrowed by 2.5 billion from the previous quarter with a total red ink of 831 million. The late June surge in pound sterling speculation against the dollar weighed on the deficit.

A weak high pressure ridge keeps Louisiana partly cloudy and warm with scattered showers and thunder storms mainly in the afternoon and evening. Highs in the low 90s with tonight’s low near 70. Winds 5 to 15 mph. Monroe FAA reported 94 Monday high and 69 low with no rain. Rain chances 40 percent today and Wednesday, 20 percent tonight. Sunshine about 70 percent.

Supporters floated delaying the vote until after a two week recess as opponents pressed for a time limit on amendments and for debate on the Jackson amendment seeking numerical equality in later SALT talks.

House Votes On Disaster Relief Funds For Agnes

The House votes to approve a 1.59 billion disaster relief bill for Agnes victims including 1.3 billion for low interest SBA loans, 200 million for housing and aid, and funds for roads and flood control.
