Catherine Keller, 25, arrested in Ypsilanti after admitting she accompanied the trio earlier, says she left before the robbery and killings. Sentenced to life, Smith, Blackstone, and Oliver guarded in Jackson Prison as mobs threatened.
The first bale of cotton in Lincoln parish for this year was ginned at Winnsboro this morning on the J. S. Gardner farm by F. P. Wilson. Sherrouse Gin Co. ginned it and it sold to W. J. Sherrouse and C. Sherrouse at eight cents a pound. May set the pace for other parishes as Ruston and Ouachita await first bales.

Fire crews from across the city fought the blaze for about a half hour. Officials suggested the fire may have started from a match in an air shaft. Water and smoke damaged multiple offices and businesses.

Baton Rouge Aug. 14 Miss Lucille Grace daughter of Fred J Grace registers of the state office was burned today when gas in a photostat machine ignited in her father’s office at the state house She suffered burns on shoulders and hands and was taken to a local sanitarium for treatment
Tam many's chieftain John F. Curry admitted before the Hofstadter investigating committee he intervened with a judge to aid Dr. William F. Doyle in getting a stay of sentence for contempt. Doyle was held in contempt and declined to answer a question about fee splitting with officials. The committee voted he failed to clear contempt and Doyle remains in contempt. The Hepstadter committee also urged Governor Roosevelt to call a special session to grant it immunity powers for witnesses in graft investigations.

Lawyers Warren Hunt and Joe Guerriero present reasons for mercy while Winn parish district attorney Harry Fuller questions witness reliability. Affidavits from Inez Higdon Hazel Talbot and Neal Lawrence question a trial’s truth and hint at bribe-fueled testimony.
Property with unpaid 1930 taxes will be offered starting 11 o clock Saturday at the city hall east door for city and parish taxes, then at the court house west door for parish taxes. More properties than last year may be sold though mortgage creditors may reduce the count by paying taxes early. Redemption requires payment of taxes plus 20 percent and expenses.
