In Coatesville Pennsylvania a mob dragged Zach Walker from a hospital, tied him to a cot, and burned him after he was wounded during an incident in which Edward Rice, a policeman, was fatally struck. The crowd of about 1000 forced entry to view the killing as authorities guarded the scene and hospital.

Fort Payne Indiana reports a revised victim list after the Pennsylvania five wreck near here. Two dead two missing and thirty three injured. It is likely two of the missing men the engineer and fireman are dead. The known dead are the freight engineer and the baggage man.
Rome reports on August 14 that physicians found Pope Pius's condition changed only slightly from the day before.
In Mexico City on August 14 the government warned Emiliano Zapata to disband his Morelos revolutionaries immediately or a strong regular army deployment would restore peace. A brigade under Colonel Blanquet headed for Cuernavaca to support General Huerta. Madero traveled to Cuernavaca after inviting Zapata to confer. failure to attend or continued belligerence would trigger broader action. Zapata’s troops say they will not submit while federal troops stay in Morelos. a prior clash caused casualties.
President Taft plans a veto of the Flood resolution admitting Arizona and New Mexico to statehood. He intends to discuss details with administration leaders before a final revision and delivery to Congress, likely by Tuesday if in session. The recall of judiciary provision drives the veto concerns.
