Senate redistrict plan expands Louisiana Senate

In Baton Rouge the Senate redistricting committee studied Rep. Benny Christian's plan to raise the chamber from 39 to 45 seats, with 30 for South Louisiana and 13 for North Louisiana. The plan adds seats for East Baton Rouge, Jefferson, and the Caddo-DeSoto district, with Ouachita becoming separate. Governor McKeithen indicated support only if North Louisiana is not hurt.

Tugboat Missing Off Georgia Coast With Five Crewmembers

An extensive air and sea search continued for a 65 foot tugboat named Michael and its five crewmen after the vessel reported difficulty in heavy seas. The wreckage included a workhouse but no explosion was detected. Names of two crewmen were confirmed as Junius Lombars and Raymond Brush. others were unnamed.

Mayor bans gatherings in Paterson amid riots

Paterson mayor Frank X. Graves Jr ordered all public gatherings halted until further notice after a violent night in Paterson and Elizabeth.
