Endom Dies Esteemed Monroe Mayor At 86
Fred Endom longtime Monroe mayor and liveryman died at his 207 Catalpa Street home at 4 10 AM after a weeklong illness. A native of Westphalia Germany he led Monroe as mayor from 1874 1884 and again in 1886 and built modern garages from a lifelong business story. He is survived by three sons Allie Louis Fred and daughter Mrs Louise Endom Kelley.

Bastrop Pulp Plant Secures Large Wood Supply
The Bastrop Pulp and Paper Company plans a pulp mill near Bastrop to open in about sixty days. It has 30,000 cords of wood contracted from Northeastern Louisiana parishes to be sent by the Arkansas and Louisiana Mississippi railway. Wood orders total 2,500 to 3,000 carloads, with many workers needed this winter. Most timber will be cut along the A L M line between Monroe and Bastrop.

The panel aims to devise a collection plan and repeal luxury taxes while keeping other taxes intact. O Brien Moves To Halt Salt Water Flow At Clark No 1
Captain R P Webb reports Union parish streams contaminated by salt water from the Clark No 1 well of Homer El Dorado Oil Co in the northern part of Union. Four water samples show brackish conditions and will be sent to state chemists for bacteria tests. O Brien plans to shut off the salt water flow within days, ending the contamination to local streams and fish.
