In Chicago on August 13 J. C. Lewis eminent commander of the Minneapolis Knights Templars commandery was badly burned and others riding with him were injured when a bottle of sulfuric acid and phosphorus was tossed into their automobile along Michigan avenue. Also injured were Mrs. Lewis Mrs. J. F. Boeke and Albert Nathan president of the Illinois Casing Company. The assailant hidden in seats near the grand stand fled after the attack, which is linked to a recent strike by automobile drivers.

Birmingham August 12 Will Milfred of East Lake entered his wife's room before dawn and beat her with a machinist hammer. The woman is near death in hospital. He left a note asking a neighbor to care for the three children. A child recalls the father demanded money before the fatal attack.
In Columbus Ohio rioting and disorder followed a street car strike. Gov Harmon is urged to deploy troops after police neglect and withdrawals led to violence. A bleeding young girl, Helen Kelly, was shot and seriously wounded but showing some improvement.
