A Monday sale of 32 pieces of dishware at Rhodes Jennnings department store in Memphis drew about 150 onlookers on a balcony who collapsed it, injuring at least 35 people. Dust, panic, and a sprinkler deluge followed as firemen and police evacuated the injured.
Four persons died and two were injured when an automobile struck a parked car on a river bridge at Sayre Oklahoma. The deceased are Ralph Burkhalter the driver John Hartman Gracd Dees and Winona Moreland all residents of Sayre.
A windstorm and rain swept New Orleans cooling the city after a month of intense heat. Temperatures dropped to 80 degrees as thousands endured the heat prior to the disturbance.
T and Pound, 69, a hiccough patient, was declared on the mend at a Birmingham hospital after suffering hiccups for 13 consecutive days. The attending physician reported progress as of August 11.

A four stand cotton gin in Oak Grove seven miles south of Simsboro and ten bales of cotton burned in a 2 am fire. Operator Joe Durrett ran the electrical plant, which served a top cotton area and yielded 3000 bales ginned last year. The gin valued at 12500 dollars, origin of the blaze unknown.

A sensational kidnap attempt near Buckatunna Mississippi involved G A Peppers of Royal Oak Michigan and George Hermat. They allegedly forced Mrs Roscoe O Guynn and her husband from their car, aimed pistols, and fled after neighbors heard screams. Both suspects are jailed in Wayne County Mississippi on assault with a pistol charges.
In Terre Haute area, vigilantes cornered four filling station bandits near Brazil. Roy Long, driver of the bandit car, was killed when guards fired from multiple vantage points. three companions were captured after a brief exchange. Floyd Frye was wounded in the leg. The assailants, all Terre Haute youths, had just robbed the Rawley station.
NEW ORLEANS Aug 11 Baldwin lodge a longtime New Orleans social rendezvous at English Lookout on Pearl river and the Gulf burned early today with an estimated loss of 75000 and insured for 30000. The lodge named for Albert Baldwin was sold after his death to Robert L Ducros and George L Ducros who received word of the fire and said the cause was undetermined.
Providence Kentucky Aug. 11 an orange monoplane with government license No 5088 dropped nine bombs into a coal mining region amid labor troubles. Two exploded near the Young and Holt mine while another exploded near the Ruckman entrance causing alarm but injuring no one.
Elderis Taylor a 9 year old boy with red hair was jailed in Duncan Oklahoma after admitting he started a fire in a lumber yard causing extensive damage. He had sparked five prior fires including one at his parents home and his brother faced a robbery charge in an adjacent cell.
A cottage at Cox's Lake amusement park near Johnson City burned, killing five people including Mrs. Hugh Lee Witt and her children, and injuring two others. Investigators probe fireworks storage as cause. Ira Witt and Paul Reeder had attended a midnight show and may have lit cigarettes upon return.
