Sheriff Hanson engaged officers in several Texas cities to pursue the case of the missing May Or. Relatives hope her return will settle a long perplexing mystery for the family and local officials, with financial support reportedly adequate to aid the effort.
Margaret Duncan, 32, a Louisville society woman, met Dr. Johnson a year ago in Atlantic City.
A Rome report cited by a Paris dispatch says the royal family has dropped its opposition to the engagement of the Duke of Abruzzi and Miss Catherine Elkins. The couple’s plans are to announce their engagement soon, with Miss Elkins and her mother in Europe for months.
J J Gallagher a discharged dock employee fired at Mayor Gaynor as he prepared to sail on the Kaiser Wilhelm Der Grosse from North German Lloyd docks Hoboken. The bullet struck Gaynor in the neck and he is listed in serious condition with recovery doubt. Gallagher was seized by officers and is reported discharged from duty after the attack.
The Narragansett Club raid in Narragansett Rhode Island uncovered thirty society leaders including polo players and visiting guests. Constable Cross released detainees after recording names, while several used false identities. Mayor Gaynor, vacationing abroad, was shot by Gallagher whose motive stated as bread and butter deprived.
In San Sebastian on August 9 Catholics and Carlists in Basque provinces formed a broad campaign to defend Catholicism. They named a general committee to organize a mammoth demonstration against the government and plan to establish militant juntas in every province.
Donaldsonville La Aug 9 Chief of Police Henry Schaff reports the disappearance of Mrs Nick Ardillo has been solved. A Marshall Texas brakeman T S McDaniel advised he met a woman matching her description at the National Hotel in Marshall and she said she left on the July 23 train from Donaldsonville and planned to go to Fort Worth Houston Dallas Longview and Beaumont. The hotel owner verified the tale and said she planned to travel further after Marshall.
Governor Jared Young Sanders called a ten day extraordinary session of the Louisiana General Assembly at Baton Rouge beginning August 15 1910. The proclamation lists measures to allow city property taxes for industrial inducements constitutional Nettles bill amendments and public land enforcement, plus funding for the session.
Physicians and surgeons attending Mayor Gaynor after consultation late this afternoon issued a bulletin reporting the Mayor was shot on the right side of the neck with the bullet entering the posterior and traveling downward and forward. The bullet’s position has not been definitely located. The Mayor is conscious and resting quietly with no immediate danger seen.
Chicago on August 9 reported the formal announcement of a future marriage between Rev. Herrick Johnson, 78, professor emeritus and former president of McCormick Theological Seminary, and Miss Mar.
Reports from Lockport that Chicago and New York capitalists abandoned the Lafourche reclamation project due to land title suits were denied by local financiers. They say the plans will proceed to bring Eastern farmers to cultivate the land.
Fort Smith dispatch reports Franklin Bache head of Bache-Denman Coal Company says all ten of the state's largest mines will resume in a few days under open shop rules. Striking miners will be offered a chance to return. if insufficient workers sign on, outside miners will be brought in.
San Antonio resident Joe Krimmer filed for $3,500 of the $6,000 reward for capturing Joseph Wendling, the Louisville murder suspect. Krimmer says he advised Detective Carney to question Mrs. Muena of Hume, Missouri.
New Orleans on August 8 the Pardons Board reviewed several cases including Sam Pirraro sentenced to life for the killing of Wimberk Boney Jr in Bossier Parish. No decision was announced.

In Denison Texas a 51 year old woman, Mrs Joseph Wolfe, wife of a local contractor, was found with a throat wound on her bed by her daughter. Indications show death occurred several hours earlier. Officers report a crew is at work and an arrest is expected soon.
In Dresden Tennessee Aug 9 three Alexander brothers killed a neighbor’s son during a picnic near Kenton over a craps dispute. They fled after stabbing Robert Simmons who tried to ride away with winnings. Deputies captured them later in Kenton where locals threatened lynching. fear has since abated.
