Warwick youths survive cave-in after underground tunnel collapse
Two 15 year olds Michael J Kasek Jr and Frank J Laprochina Jr were buried by sand in a 15 foot deep tunnel at Warwick while three others had left the entrance hours earlier. A fourth boy, William E Underwood Jr, was pulled from the debris after two hours of rescue work. Firefighters backhoes and volunteers freed him, and he survived. The three gravely buried, Kasek and Laprochina died at the scene while Underwood recovered. The boys had been digging a horizontal shaft beside a foundation for about five years.
